Double Blow For UTAG Yamaha

09 May 2009 Back to News Home

Saturday's timed qualification at round four of the MX2 World Championship in Agueda, Portugal, proved disastrous for UTAG Yamaha teamster Zach Osborne. Within two laps a mechanical failure struck causing Zach to crash, resulting in a broken left radius which will probably see the Turkish GP winner sidelined for at least six weeks. Zach will be seeing his American doctor, who is currently in Belgium, early this week to assess which procedures will best help his recovery.

At the same circuit a little later in the day, women's World Championship contender and UTAG Yamaha team rider Tarah Gieger clipped a track post and crashed, breaking her right radius. Tarah was running strongly in sixth position during the first moto when the crash happened after just half a lap.

The double injury scenario is in stark contrast to the team's start to the season, with Zach moving up to fourth position in the world standings and winning his first GP in Turkey. Nevertheless the team will be one hundred percent focused on supporting Mel Pococks's efforts over the coming weeks.
